Separate Game and Camera Recording- Mastering OBS for Individual Game and Camera Footage

How to Record Game and Camera Separately with OBS

In today’s gaming community, recording gameplay along with a separate camera feed has become increasingly popular. Whether you’re a content creator looking to enhance your video production or a casual gamer wanting to capture your gaming moments with a unique perspective, using OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) to record game and camera separately is a practical solution. This article will guide you through the process of setting up OBS to achieve this dual recording functionality.

Firstly, ensure that you have OBS installed on your computer. You can download the software from the official OBS website. Once installed, launch OBS and begin setting up your recording environment.

1. Set up your game source:
– In the Sources panel, click on the ‘+’ button and select ‘Game Capture’.
– Choose the game you want to record from the list of available games. If your game is not listed, you can select ‘Game Capture (DirectX)’ or ‘Game Capture (OpenGL)’ depending on your game’s graphics API.
– Configure the capture settings according to your game’s resolution and frame rate.

2. Add a camera source:
– Click on the ‘+’ button in the Sources panel and select ‘Camera’.
– Choose your camera from the list of available devices. You can adjust the camera settings such as resolution, frame rate, and aspect ratio to match your preference.

3. Position and resize the sources:
– Drag and drop the game source and camera source onto the main workspace in OBS. You can resize and position them as needed to create the desired layout.

4. Configure the output settings:
– Go to the ‘File’ menu and select ‘Settings’.
– In the ‘Output’ tab, set the ‘Recording’ format to your preferred video codec (e.g., H.264).
– Adjust the ‘Recording’ settings to match your desired recording resolution and frame rate. Remember that higher resolutions and frame rates will result in larger file sizes.

5. Add a separate recording profile:
– Go to the ‘Output’ tab and click on the ‘+’ button under the ‘Recording’ section.
– Name the new profile and configure the settings according to your requirements for the camera recording. This will ensure that your game and camera recordings are saved separately.

6. Start recording:
– Click on the ‘Start Recording’ button in the OBS interface. OBS will begin recording both the game and camera feed simultaneously.
– Once you’re done recording, click on the ‘Stop Recording’ button to save your files.

By following these steps, you can easily record game and camera separately using OBS. This dual recording feature allows you to create engaging content with a professional touch, making your videos stand out in the competitive gaming community. Happy recording!
